Ever been to a hot air balloon festival? You won't want to miss the Annual Seven Lakes State Park Balloon Race on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27, weather permitting, in the Fenton/Holly area. Balloons will be launched at 7 p.m., as the winds allow, on both days. Other activities during the festival include tethered balloon rides, balloon, swimming, boating, fishing, camping, picnic areas, music, food, canoes, paddle boats, biking, contests, and more. Beat the heat and go swimming and boating in our many area lakes, without the long drive up north! Mom and Dad will love saving money on gas! Discover over 26,000 acres of rolling hills, lakes, wetlands, woodlands, pine forests, and more, in and around Genesee County. Genesee County Parks, the largest county- wide park system in Michigan, has over 11,000 acres alone!

Laser shows return to the Longway Planetarium in late July and August. On Saturday, July 26, don't miss Laser Hendrix and Laser Floyd: The Wall. On Saturday August 2, Laser Zeppelin and Laser Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon. Laser Floyd: The Wall and Laser Metallica will show on Saturday, August 16, and Laser Floyd: The Wall and Laser Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon on Saturday, August 23.

For ages 10 and up, from July 18 through August 9, enjoy Flint Youth Theatre's Arthur, King of Britain. Based on the novel, THE PENDRAGON, by Catherine Christian, it's the perennial story of King Arthur, set against the backdrop of the Dark Ages. Click here for tickets.

While you're visiting Crossroads Village, don't miss a ride on the Huckleberry Railroad with its 15 historic coaches! This 8-mile, 35 minute ride will take you around beautiful Mott Lake, and through the scenic Genesee Recreation Area. It's sure to be fun for the whole family!

For more railroad fun and history, it's a short drive to the Michigan Railroad History Museum in Durand. How important were railroads to Michigan in the early 1900's? Very! At Durand Union Station during its peak, 42 passenger trains, 22 mail trains, and 78 freight trains passed through the Station each day! Just west of Frankenmuth, in Bridgeport, you'll find the world's largest quarter-size railroad at Junction Valley Railroad. Enjoy a 2 mile quarter-size train ride through custom-made buildings, bridges, tunnels, trestle, and more. All the buildings, bridges, trains, etc. were designed, engineered, and built on-site by William A. Stenger and family.
